How to Clean Your Glasses With Care

March 30, 2018

If you don’t have perfect vision, prescription glasses are essential tools that bring the world into plain sight. While invaluable on their own, you can enjoy even greater clarity by cleaning your glasses every day. If you’ve fallen out of the routine and need a refresher, take advantage of the following advice from Eye Candy Vision.

This Philadelphia-based optical boutique recommends the following tips for keeping your lenses clean and scratch-free:

  • Wash Your Hands: Before touching your lenses, wash and dry your hands so they’re free of soap scum, lotion, dirt, and other contaminants that could scratch, smear, or gum up your visual aids.

  • Use Water & Dish Soap: It isn’t enough to wipe your glasses with tissue—you should at least wash them with lukewarm water, as a dry cloth alone can scratch the glass. Additionally, use a couple of drops of lotion-free dish washing detergent. Don’t let the water get too hot, as this can also damage your lenses.

  • Dry With a Clean, Lint-Free Cloth: Only wipe your glasses with a clean, lint-free microfiber cloth or specialized lens cleaning wipes. Regular tissue paper may contain dust or a rough texture that can scratch your eyeglasses. Don’t reuse disposable cloths, and wash your reusable ones regularly.

  • Use a Storage Case: To keep your glasses in great shape, store them in a case every night at bedtime, or whenever you’re not using them. The case will protect them from collecting dust and serve as a buffer if they fall.

If your glasses are scratched and need some form of repair or replacement, come see us at Eye Candy Vision. You can reach this optical boutique by calling 215-568-3937 or visiting them online. Whether you’re looking for prescription sunglasses or trendy frames from international designers, their team looks forward to serving you!
