An exhibition conceived by Galleria Safilo and powered by the City of Ormož, in Northearn Slovenia, provides a short story of spectacles and how Safilo pioneered the eyewear industry in 1878.
It also explores the intersection between vision and other fields such as design, technology, fashion and sport.
Importantly, the exhibition will highlight to the public the high quality and great craftsmanship of the Ormož plant where Optyl frames are manufactured.
Optyl is a plastic material patented by Safilo and exclusively produced in Ormož. It is renowned as one of the best materials in the eyewear industry.
The history of spectacles began in Venice nearly 700 years ago. The late 19th century saw the birth of the Italian eyeglasses manufacturing industry, centered around the Cadore area in northern Italy. The very first eyewear business was set up in 1878 and it would later become Safilo in 1934.
Today, Safilo possesses a unique heritage, expertise and savoir-faire.
The company plays a unique role in the eyewear market worldwide with the ability to break the mold and bring innovation to the industry through its five design studios and seven owned production plants, Ormož being an excellent one among them.
The exhibition will be hosted by the City of Ormož, on the occasion of the annual celebration of Saint Martin’s Day, on Friday, November 10, 2017. The exhibition will run for three months.
A digital version of the exhibition will be available online via GalleriaSafilo.com.
This will be a link to the physical exhibition which will allow visitors to discover even more, in terms of products and history.
The digital exhibition will live on after the physical exhibition closes.
